Our Evolution

In 2019...

The Capital Women’s Campaign (CWC) was founded in 2019 by former Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo who was deeply disturbed by the election of a president who had vowed to strip women of our hard-fought civil liberties, especially the right to control our own bodies.

Buoyed by the election of a record-breaking 120 women to Congress, Fargo assembled a small group of politically active women to build on that momentum.  She began by urging all in attendance to check organizational egos and personal agendas at the door.

“We must be a united front,” she stressed, “if we are going to succeed in bringing even more women into the political process.” Since that initial meeting, CWC has expanded beyond a few dozen pro-choice women and our organizations to become an intersectional alliance of more than a thousand activists throughout the greater Sacramento region determined to flex our collective power of resistance.

As Mayor Fargo continues to remind us, “No one is free until we are all free.”
