It’s been a sad week for our country. The U.S. pandemic death toll is over 200,000 and we lost our civil-rights champion, the notorious RBG.
But with only 40 days left till the general election, we must steel ourselves, work through our grief, and recommit ourselves to stay the course through November 3rd. To that end, here are four things you can do right away to turn your political angst into action:
First - Be sure you are registered, and any immediate family or friends or new neighbors are registered too. Then, as they say, PLAN YOUR VOTE! Will you mail it early, or drop it off at voting center or drop box? Note that there will be options listed in the sample ballots when they arrive. And if you decide to vote in person be sure to say, “I’m here to vote. Ruth sent me."
Second - become a smart voter by doing your homework. Below are two upcoming forums to help you do just that.
“Women Power the Vote” on Monday Oct 5. This is a special virtual forum hosted by the League of Women Voters (LWV) and Sacramento Women's and Girls Advancement Coalition (SWAC). NWPC Sacramento and CWC are among the co-sponsors. I will be one of the forum speakers along with former Sacramento City Council Woman Lauren Hammond, and Paula Lee, LWV past president. We will discuss why Measure A is not good for women and take questions from the virtual audience. See the attached flyer to register and for more info.
Election 2020 CA Ballot Proposition Forum Wednesday, October 14 at 6:30 pm via Zoom. Professor Mary Beth Moylan and a panel of McGeorge School of Law students review the current propositions on the November ballot. Q & A to follow.

Third - become a Silent Sentinel and help Get Out The Vote (GOTV) on October 10 from 10 am to noon. Don your purple, gold and/or white attire and join other modern-day Suffragists on busy street corners throughout Sacramento and Placer Counties to urge one and all to exercise our right to vote. This event is a tribute to the original Silent Sentinels, a group of determined women who stood silently in front of the White House in protest of President Woodrow Wilson's lack of support for women's right to vote. They wore distinctive purple, white and gold sashes and held signs with slogans like, "Mr. President, how long must we wait for liberty." See the attached flyer to register and claim your corner.
